Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Adding a VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM) license into vCenter Server fails
  • You see the error:

    Invalid License Key

  • If you click on the details, you see:

    Error: License file missing -5

Environment

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4.1.x

Cause

This issue occurs if SRM is not registered as a solution in this instance of vCenter Server. Without being registered as a vCenter Solution, SRM license keys are not recognized as valid.

Resolution

If SRM has not yet been installed, install it.
If SRM has been installed, re-register it with vCenter Server by performing one of these options:
  • Performing a Modify Install
  • Using the srm-config.exe utility

For more information, see the Site Recovery Manager Installation and Configuration Guide for your version of SRM.
