Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Running pre-check before starting remediation via Update Manager on a DRS-disabled cluster with no running VMs, an alert will be displayed stating:
"Pre-check found problems what will block remediation. See details below. The blocking problems may have caused the pre-check to complete prematurely. Therefore, after fixing the problems, please re-run this pre-check"
  • In the details section, under "System actions", the following check is displayed:
    • DRS should be enabled
    • User action needed is displayed as "Required"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.7.x
VMware vSphere Update Manager 6.7.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x

Cause

Before remediation is attempted via Update Manager at cluster level, few pre-checks are performed. In the case of DRS-disabled cluster, Update Manager runs DRS check on each host regardless of whether VMs are running on the hosts and then throws an alert about DRS enablement:
"Pre-check found problems what will block remediation. See details below. The blocking problems may have caused the pre-check to complete prematurely. Therefore, after fixing the problems, please re-run this pre-check"

Resolution

This message can be safely ignored and proceed with host remediation if manually evacuated running VMs from the host(s).

VMware is aware of this situation and working to resolve in future release.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue, in DRS-disabled clusters with no running VMs on hosts, this message can be safely ignored and remediation can be started.
While the message mentions that this issue will block remediation, remediation can be started/completed regardless of DRS enablement.
