Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrade from ESX 3.0.1, you cannot deploy an existing template or mount an ISO image from the NFS ISO store
  • You see the error:

    Invalid configuration for device '0'

Environment

VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.x
VMware ESX Server 3.0.x
VMware ESX 4.0.x
VMware VirtualCenter 2.0.x
VMware ESX Server 3.5.x
VMware ESX 4.1.x
VMware ESX Server 2.0.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue, for mounting an ISO image from the NFS ISO store you will need to remove and re-add the datastore to the ESX host. For more information, see the Mounting NFS volumes section of the ESX Configuration Guide.
To resolve this issue so you can deploy a template, disconnect or remove virtual floppy or CD-ROM drives from the virtual machine configuration. Perform:
  1. Convert the template to a virtual machine.
  2. Disconnect or remove virtual floppy or CD-ROM drives from the virtual machine configuration.
  3. Save the changes and convert the virtual machine back to a template.
  4. Deploy the template.
