Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Cannot apply Host Profile settings on an ESXi host when using vSphere Auto Deploy to start the host.
  • Applying the Host Profile settings on an ESXi host using vSphere Auto Deploy fails.
  • In the syslog.log file, located at /var/log/, you see entries similar to:

    Host Profiles[10376]: WARNING: applyHostProfile utility leaving host in maintenance mode during post boot configuration.
    Apply Error: Host Profile execution failed:
    'Balanced' CPU policy not supported by system
    Reapply Required State: None
    Early Boot Failed State: None
    2014-07-31T07:52:50Z host-profiles: Host profile application failed. Please see system logs for more information

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure that the ESXi host BIOS is set to the same CPU Power Policy available in the Host Profile under the Power System setting.

Alternatively, set the host's BIOS CPU Power Policy to OS Control.

Note: The OS Control terminology varies depending on the Hardware Vendor.
