Issue/Introduction

This article provides definitions for the Total Virtual Disk Space Configured and the Disk Space Total Used metrics that are used in the Virtual Machine List report in VMware vRealize Operations Manager (formerly known as VMware vCenter Operations Manager).

Environment

VMware vCenter Operations Manager (vApp) 5.8.x
VMware vCenter Operations Manager (vApp) 5.7.x

Resolution

The Total Virtual Disk Space Configured corresponds to the sum of the sizes of all virtual disks attached to a virtual machine.

The Disk Space Total Used corresponds to the amount of space actually consumed on the datastore by virtual disks of a virtual machine. This number may be lower than the Total Virtual Disk Space Configured value because of thin provisioning.

The value reported for the Disk Space Total Used should account for the Raw Device Mappings (RDMs) and also the normal virtual disk files.
