Exporting events from Tasks and Events in VMware vCenter Server 4.x / 5.x/6.x fails to export all events

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

The following events are missing in exported data:

• Storage and Networking related events occur with error messages similar to:
  

Lost connectivity to storage device naa.00000000000000000000000000000000. Path vmhba00:C0:T0:L0 is down. Affected datastores: "XXXX".

Lost access to volume 00000000-00000000-0000-000000000000 (Local-Disk-0) due to connectivity issues. Recovery attempt is in progress and outcome will be reported shortly.

Lost path redundancy to storage device naa.00000000000000000000000000000000. Path vmhba00:C0:T0:L0 is down.

Successfully restored access to volume 00000000-00000000-0000-000000000000 (Local-Disk-0) following connectivity issues.

Device naa.00000000000000000000000000000000 performance has deteriorated. I/O latency increased from average value of 4289 microseconds to 380770 microseconds.

• HA related events occur with error messages similar:
  

HA initiated a failover action in cluster <cluster name> in datacenter <datacenter name>.

A possible host failure has been detected by HA on host <host name> in cluster <cluster name> in datacenter <datacenter name>.

HA completed a failover action in cluster <cluster name> in datacenter <datacenter name>.

HA Agent on host in cluster <cluster name> in datacenter <datacenter name> is running.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware vCenter Server 4.x , 5.x and 6.x.

Currently, there is no resolution.

To work around this issue, manually export the Tasks and Events.

To export the Tasks and Events manually:

1. Show the event list in the Web Client.
2. Select all event messages by pressing Alt+a.
3. Press Ctrl + Left-Click the button at the bottom right of the table or select, Copy to Clipboard Selected Items Only Copy All.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 on any further pages as needed.
5. Paste to a new text file and save the file as CSV format.
