Upgrading the Virtual Hardware version of vRealize Operations Nodes

Issue/Introduction

The Virtual Hardware version of a vRealize Operations node can be upgraded in order to comply with security standards, complete an upscale, etc.

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations 8.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.1.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.5.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.2.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.3.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.0.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.0.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.4.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.7.x

Resolution

To upgrade the Virtual Hardware version of a vRealize Operations node, complete the following:
  1. Log into the vRealize Operations Admin UI as admin.
  2. Click the Take Offline button to take the cluster offline.
  3. Enter a reason and click OK.
  4. Log into the vSphere Web Client as an administrator.
  5. Right-Click the vRealize Operations Primary node and click Power > Shutdown Guest OS.
Note: It is recommended to backup each node before proceeding.
  1. Right-Click the Primary node and click Compatibility > Upgrade VM Compatibility.
  2. Read the warning and click Yes.
  3. In the Compatible with box, select the desired compatibility level and click OK.
  4. Right-Click the Primary node and click Power > Power On.
  5. Repeat steps 5-9 on all other vRealize Operations nodes.
  6. Log into the vRealize Operations Admin UI as admin.
  7. Click the Bring Online button to bring the cluster online.


Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
It's recommended to take a backup of all vRealize Operations nodes once the cluster is offline, before proceeding with the Virtual Hardware Upgrade.

Ensure the Virtual Hardware version of each vRealize Operations node matches.
