Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
- Deploying a virtual machine with a name that has been used for another virtual machine results in this error:
VirtualMachine Name <machine name> already exists
- You have confirmed that the machine is no longer in vSphere or VMware vRealize Automation (formerly known as VMware vCloud Automation Center).
- The old virtual machine machine with the same name is removed and no longer in the system.
Environment
VMware vCloud Automation Center for Server 5.1.x
VMware vCloud Automation Center for Desktop 5.1.x
VMware vCloud Automation Center for Server 4.5.x
Cause
This is caused by a pre-deployment check that VMware vRealize Automation makes finding the name in Active Directory, DNS, or WINS.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, verify that the machine does not exist in Active Directory, DNS, or WINS.
