Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The VirtualCenter Service fails after a few minutes
  • You can restart the VirtualCenter service, but it fails again
  • VMware Distributed Resource Scheduling (DRS) is enabled

    Note: VMware High Availability (HA) may also be enabled.
     
  • The %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs\vpxd.log file contains entries similar to:

Resolution

This is known issue, This issue may be caused by VMware DRS.
 
To work around this issue, restart the VirtualCenter Server service and quickly disable and then re-enable DRS.
 
 
Warning: Disabling DRS removes all the resource pools in the cluster. If the cluster has resource pools configured, place the DRS cluster in manual mode.
