Disabling Linked Mode for VMware vCenter Server 4.x and 5.x

Issue/Introduction

This article provides information on disabling linked mode in VMware vCenter Server 4.x and 5.x.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x

Resolution

To disable linked mode, isolate the vCenter Server instance from the Linked Mode group:

1. Click Start > All Programs > VMware > vCenter Linked Mode Configuration.
2. Click Modify linked mode configuration.
3. Click Next.
4. Click Isolate this vCenter Server instance from linked mode group.
5. Click Next.
6. Click Continue.
7. Click Finish.

The vCenter Server instance is no longer part of the Linked Mode group.

 

Notes:

• If you are prompted with an option to force the isolation, accept it.
• In Windows 2008 and Windows 2012, right-click vCenter Linked Mode Configuration and click Run As Administrator.
• If there are errors during this process, see Isolating vCenter Server from a linked mode configuration fails (2013411).
