How to enable instanced metrics in VCF Operations 8.2 and later

Issue/Introduction

Instanced metrics are not collected by default in VCF Operations. This article provides the required instructions to enable the collection of instanced metrics for specific resources when required for monitoring, dashboards, or reporting purposes.

Environment

VCF Operations (formerly known as Aria Operations) 8.2 and later 

Cause

To optimize overall system performance, reduce data ingestion loads, and minimize storage consumption, instanced metrics are disabled by default within the base policies of VCF Operations 8.2 and later.

Resolution

To re-enable instanced metrics, follow the steps below.

1. Log into the vRealize Operations UI as an Administrative user.
2. Navigate to Administration > Policies.
3. Select the desired policy and click Edit Policy.
4. In the Policy editor, click Metrics and Properties.
5. In the Select Object Type field, search for and select the desired object type.
6. Filter for the desired metric in the Quick Filter field, or navigate the tree menu to find the desired metric.
7. Once the metric has been found, click the blue Disabled status under the Instanced State column.
8. Toggle the Collect state to On.
9. Optional: Specify any instanced collection conditions desired in the appropriate field.
10. Click Save.

Repeat as necessary to enable all of the instanced metrics you want to be collected.
