Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The issue occurs in vRealize Operations 8.2 or later after upgrading from vRealize Operations 8.1.x with vRealize Network Insight Management Pack installed and configured.
  • After upgrading to vRealize Operations 8.2 or later, default values are not set for the Import problem events based on common data sources and Import problem events based on severities settings in the vRealize Network Insight Management Pack.
  • Issues can occur when trying to start or stop the vRealize Network Insight adapter instance.

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations 8.1.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.3.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.4.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.2.x

Cause

The Import problem events based on common data sources and Import problem events based on severities settings are added during the upgrade to vRealize Operations 8.2 or later from version 8.1 while the vRealize Network Insight Management Pack is automatically upgraded to the OOTB version of the Management Pack.  During the upgrade, these settings are added, but no default values are added, causing issues starting and/or stopping a vRealize Network Insight adapter instance.

Resolution

After the upgrade to vRealize Operations 8.2 or later is complete, configure the Import problem events based on common data sources and Import problem events based on severities settings with default (or custom) values.
  1. Log into the vRealize Operations UI with an administrative user.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Management > Integrations > vRealize Network Insight.
  3. Expand the Advanced Settings section by clicking the Arrow.
  4. Set a value for Import problem events based on common data sources.  The default value is Enable.
  5. Set a value for  Import problem events based on severities. The default values are Critical, and Moderate.
  6. Click Save.
