Slow virtual machine performance or Web UI response problems

Issue/Introduction

• Virtual machine performance is slow.
• The web interface performs poorly. For example, you see white screens or performance is slow when using the links on the left navigation bar.
• esxtop shows pegged CPU resources or virtual machine processes with high CPU usage.
• You experience storage connectivity problems, including SCSI reservation issues.

Environment

VMware vCenter Lab Manager 2.5.x
VMware vCenter Lab Manager 2.4.x
VMware ESX Server 3.0.x
VMware ESX Server 2.5.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue, check if a process is consuming RAM. To check if processes are consuming RAM, inspect the Windows Event Viewer and check if any process is consuming excessive RAM.

If excessive RAM consumption is not causing the issue, apply the appropriate patch:

• For ESX Server 3.0.1: ESX Server 3.0.1, Patch ESX-1004185: Thumbnail Files Accumulate in ESX Server Host; Virtual Machine Does Not Synchronize With ESX Server Host Time; ESX Server Host Might ASSERT or Not Respond During Snapshot Operations (1004185).
  
  
• For ESX Server 3.0.2: ESX Server 3.0.2, Patch ESX-1004210: Virtual Machine Migration; Thumbnail Files Accumulate; SMTP Data Packets Get Dropped; Virtual Machine Does Not Synchronize; ESX Server Host Might ASSERT or Not Respond During Snapshot Operations (1004210).
