Drive letters may change after deploying Windows Templates

Issue/Introduction

After using Sysprep or after deploying and customizing a virtual machine template in vCenter Server 2.5 and later, you may experience these symptoms:

• Drive letter assignments in any Windows 2000/XP/2003/2008 machine with more than one partition or with a system partition that has a letter other than C: may change
• NIC information is lost

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.x

Resolution

This is a known limitation of Microsoft's Sysprep tool.
