Cause

This is an expected behavior. This issue occurs because the patching process cannot update the build number in the virtual machine of the vCenter Server.

Resolution

vCenter Server does not show the correct build version for an appliance when the appliance is patched.
To verify the vShield Manager/NSX Manager build version, use one of these options:
  • Verify the vShield Manager/NSX Manager build version from the vShield Administration Graphical User Interface:

    1. Log in to the vShield/NSX Administration page.
    2. Click About in the top right hand corner.

  • Verify the vShield Manager/NSX Manager build version from the console of the vShield/NSX appliance:
    1. Log in as administrator to the vShield/NSX appliance.
    2. Run this command to verify the version:

      show version

In addition to the above procedure, the product version can be changed manually by editing the NSX Manager VM's properties in the vApp Options screen. Use the following procedure:
Note - before you make any changes, VMware recommends capturing a snapshot or other backup of the NSX Manager VM.
  1. Capture the version and build number as shown in the show version command output on the NSX Manager.
  2. Power off the NSX Manager virtual machine.
  3. Edit the Version property by navigating to Edit Settings > Option > vApp Options > Advanced > Version.
  4. Change the version and then power on the NSX Manager virtual machine.
