Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps for deleting snapshots from vCenter Server.

Environment

VMware VirtualCenter 2.0.x
VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x

Resolution

To permanently remove a snapshot from vCenter Server:
  1. Choose Inventory > Virtual Machine > Snapshot > Snapshot Manager.
  2. Select a snapshot by clicking it.
  3. Click Delete.

    Note: Clicking Delete commits the snapshot data to the parent and removes the selected snapshot.
  4. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog.
  5. Click Close to exit the Snapshot Manager.
Caution: If you delete all snapshots when you are low on disk space, you may run out of disk space which causes all virtual machines with a snapshot to fail.
To delete all snapshots from vCenter Server:
  1. Choose Inventory > Virtual Machine > Snapshot > Snapshot Manager.
  2. Click Delete All to permanently remove all snapshots.

    Note: Clicking Delete All commits all the immediate snapshots before the You are here current active state to the base disk and removes all existing snapshots for that virtual machine.
  3. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog.
  4. Click Close to exit the Snapshot Manager.
