This article provides information on troubleshooting the VMware Update Manager component for vSphere 5.x and 6.0.

Resolution

Troubleshooting installation issues and issues with host remediation.

Installation issues:

• When encountering installation issues, confirm the environment is supported. For more information, see:

• Verify the installation or upgrade steps:
  
• Installation: Installing VMware vCenter Update Manager 6.0 on a Microsoft Windows platform (2142791)
  
• Upgrade: Upgrading vSphere Update Manager to version 6.0 on a Microsoft Windows platform (2142786)
  
  
• Ensure that you have sufficient permissions to the vCenter Server database to install Update Manager. For more information about troubleshooting issues with database permissions, see VMware Update Manager upgrade installation fails with the error: 25127 setup failed to upgrade the VMware vCenter update manager database (2030970).
  
  
• Verify that you are not using any non alpha-numeric passwords, and that no utilities or Windows permissions are preventing the installation from occurring. For more information, see VMware Update Manager Plug-In fails to install (1003468).
  

• Verify that you do not have any incorrect settings in the ADAM database on your vCenter Server. For more information, see Installing vCenter Update Manager fails with the error: Error 25085 Setup failed to register VMware vCenter Update Manager extension (1036055).

• In the C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Logs\vmware-vum-server-log4cpp.log file on the system running vSphere Update Manager, you see entries similar to:
