Logging in to the vSphere Web Client using older versions of Internet Explorer 10 or 11 redirects to a link with no information

Issue/Introduction

After logging in to the vSphere Web Client using earlier versions of Internet Explorer 10 or 11 on Windows that does not have Microsoft security patch MS14-065, the login process fails and you are redirected to an incorrect link with no information on the page.

 

Logging in to Internet Explorer (IE) directs you to vmware-csd://csd/?sessionid=.....

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

 

Install the security patch MS14-065 from Microsoft or upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer.
