Issue/Introduction

• Cannot install VMware Tools in Windows Server 2000 SP4.
• Installing VMware Tools in Windows Server 2000 SP4 fails.
• You see one of these errors:
  
  
  • The procedure entry point HeapSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll
  • Setup cannot continue. The Microsoft Runtime DLL installer failed to complete installation.

Resolution

This is a known issue with Windows Server 2000 SP4.

Microsoft had earlier provided an Update Rollup Pack to resolve this issue. However, as Windows Server 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft, this Update Rollup Pack is unavailable for download and installation.
