Issue/Introduction

  • When using VMware Capacity Planner permission is denied to the remote registry and perfmon of machines on different domains
  • Error 2147481648 is displayed during test connections.

Environment

VMware Capacity Planner 2.6.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.5.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.8.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.7.x

Resolution

This problem is caused by a permissions issue. To correct this issue:
  1. Add the Capacity Planner service account to the Performance Log Users and Performance Monitor Users groups on all of the domain controllers.
  2. Restart the Remote Registry Service on all of the domain controllers.

Note: If the same error is seen after performing the steps, it may be necessary to rebuild the WMI performance libraries on any affected Windows server by issuing the following commands from a DOS prompt:

  1. wmiadap /C
  2. wmiadap /f

Reboot each server after completion of the above steps.
