Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Root password does not work for VCH supplied using VIC-MACHINE-XXXX debug --rootpw

Environment

VMware vSphere Integrated Containers 1.x
VMware vSphere Integrated Containers 1.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because when we supply a password for root on VCH using VIC-MACHINE-XXXX debug --rootpw, the VCH console does not accept the password.

Resolution

VCH is a Photon OS based OS and we should consider supplying a password which meets the complexity of password requirement for photon OS if this is not fulfilled the password will not work.

As per the Photon OS documentation, you must set the root password to a complex string containing no common words or names. Photon OS rejects a root password that contains simplistic patterns, common words, or words derived from the name of your account.

For more information, see the Photon OS Administration Guide and Other Documentation.
