Creating Storage Path Redundancy/lost storage connectivity alarms in vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

This article provides information on creating an alarm for Storage Path Redundancy, and to alert users when storage connectivity is lost.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.0
VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x

Resolution

To create an alarm that triggers when the Storage Path Redundancy or storage connectivity is lost:
  1. Click your cluster in vCenter Server.
  2. Click the Alarms tab.
  3. Click Definitions (next to View).
  4. Right-click the blank space and click New Alarm.
  5. Set Alarm Type Monitor to Hosts.
  6. Select the Monitor for specific events occurring on this object, for example VM powered On option.
  7. Click the Triggers tab.
  8. Click Add.
  9. Click the first Event field that is added.
  10. From the dropdown menu, select Lost Storage Path Redundancy.
  11. Repeat these steps and add Lost Storage Connectivity.
To get email notifications when the alarm triggers:
  1. Click the Actions tab.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Under configuration, enter your destination email.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Administration > vCenter Server Settings > Mail.
  6. Enter your SMTP information.
