HotAdd mode throws error while using SATA controller with proxy virtual machine

Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
HotAdd mode throws error while using for backup.
VDDK log files contains entries similar to:

Environment
Virtual Disk Development Kit 6.0 Virtual Disk Development Kit 6.7 Virtual Disk Development Kit 6.5
Cause
VDDK assumes that there is a AHCI controller.
This issue occurs when rescanning for new disks on the AHCI controller fails.
Resolution
This is a known issue affecting VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit 6.0, 6.5, and 6.7.
To work around this issue, remove SATA controller from proxy virtual machine while using HotAdd mode.
