Gathering log bundles from Multi-Site vCenter Server 6.0 using the vSphere Web Client returns incomplete logs

Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to obtain the vCenter Server logs either by the vSphere Client, vSphere Web Client, or from Windows vCenter Server operating system.

Symptoms:

• Gathering logs from a vCenter Server using the vSphere Web Client of a remote vCenter Server returns incomplete logs.
  
  For example, in a Multi-Site vSphere 6.0 environment with two vCenter Servers, vCenter-A and vCenter-B:
  
  
  • vSphere Web Client connected to vCenter-A fails to obtain logs from vCenter-B.
  • vSphere Web Client connected to vCenter-A successfully gets the logs from vCenter-A.
    
    
• The log bundles gathered from Multi-Site vCenter Server 6.0 using the VMware vSphere Web Client has incomplete logs

Environment

VMware vSphere Web Client 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware vCenter Server 6.0 Update 2, available at VMware Downloads.

If you do not want to upgrade, as a work around obtain the vCenter Server logs from either:

• The vSphere Client

1. Open the vSphere Client and connect to vCenter Server with an administrative account.
2. Select Administration > Generate System Logs > select the required logs.

• The vSphere Web Client

1. Log in to vCenter Server that you need to gather logs from using the vSphere Web Client.
2. Navigate to vCenter Server > Monitor tab > System Logs > Generate logs.

• From Windows vCenter Server operating system
  

1. Connect to the machine hosting vCenter Server with administrative rights.
2. Navigate to Start > All Programs > VMware.
3. Right-click Generate vCenter Log Bundle and click Run as administrator.
