Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The Inventory Health Alarm is triggered in VMware vCenter Server 6.0.
  • In Home > Administration > System Configuration, you see a Warning status for the VMware vCenter Inventory Service.
  • The VMware Inventory Service displays the percentage value and warning

    Disk space usage exceeded threshold

  • There is more than 80% of free space available on volume containing the VMware vCenter Server files.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vSphere Web Client 6.0.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware vCenter Server 6.0.

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 6.0 Update 1, available at VMware downloads. For more information, see VMware vCenter Server 6.0 Update 1 Release Notes.

If there is enough free space available on volume holding the VMware vCenter Server files, this warning may safely be ignored. You can clear the alarm by selecting the Acknowledge and Reset to green options for the triggered alarm.

To work around this issue if the alarm continues to trigger:
  • Disable the Inventory Health Alarm in vCenter > Manage > Alarm Definitions.
  • Reduce size of volume so there is less than 80% of available free space.
