Issue/Introduction

Due to security considerations in some environment, you may wish to disable the links visible when navigating to https://vCenterServerName using a web browser.

This article provides the necessary steps to disable the default links visible within the VMware vCenter Server 6.0 landing page.



Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.x

Cause


Resolution

To disable the default links visible within the vCenter Server 6.0 landing page:

  1. Navigate to the document root folder for the vCenter Server 6.0 landing page. The default location is:

    Windows: C:\ProgramData\VMware\vCenterServer\cfg\vmware-vpx\docRoot\index.html
    Appliance: /etc/vmware-vpx/docRoot/index.html

  2. Take a backup of index.html.
  3. Open index.html in a text editor.
  4. Remove these lines from index.html depending on which links you would like to remove:

    Download trusted root CA certificates:



    Browse objects managed by vSphere:



    Browse datastores in the vSphere inventory:



    SDK section:






    "For Admins" Block:



  5. Save the changes to index.html.
  6. The changes should now be active. If you wish to restore the original configuration, replace index.html with the original backup from step 2.
