Viewing details of VMware Certificate Authority within vSphere Web Client fails. Error: "Failed to fetch certificates from VMware Certificate Authority"

Issue/Introduction

  • You are logged in as a user with the Administrator role in Global permissions
  • You are not logged in as the user [email protected]

    Note: If you are using a custom vCenter Single Sign-on domain, replace vsphere.local with the name of your vCenter Single Sign-on domain.

  • Navigating to Administration > System Configuration > Nodes > PSC > Manage > Certificate Authority fails with the error:

    Error: The last operation failed for the entity with the following error message. Failed to fetch certificates from VMware Certificate Authority running at psc_hostname. Password entered might be wrong. Please re-enter correct password.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.x
  • VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x

Cause

This is expected behavior, the authentication mechanism used for certificates does not support domain authentication.

Resolution

Log in to the vSphere Web Client as the user [email protected] to view the details of the VMware Certificate Authority.
 
Note: If you are using a custom vCenter Single Sign-on domain, replace vsphere.local with the name of your vCenter Single Sign-on domain.
