Issue/Introduction

When you attempt to start the vSphere Web Client in Internet Explorer 9 on a Windows Server 2008 system, you see a blue background in the Web browser window and no further activity. The problem occurs when the Internet Explorer 9 Security setting Do not save encrypted pages to disk is enabled. This setting is enabled by default on Windows Server family of operating systems.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x

Resolution

Before starting the vSphere Web Client, take the following steps.
  1. In Internet Explorer 9, from the Tools menu, select Internet options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under Security, uncheck the setting Do not save encrypted pages to disk.
Alternatively, you can access the vSphere Web Client by using Internet Explorer 7 or 8, Mozilla Firefox 3.6 or later, or Google Chrome 14 or later.
