Symptoms:
  • When starting a virtual machine with an attached RDM, the LUNs reset
  • You see log entries similar to:

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0

Cause

Resolution

Resets are usually sent to the RDM LUNs while starting the virtual machine.
This is an expected behavior and the messages can be safely ignored.
However, if the H:0x0 D:0x2 P:0x0 Valid sense data: 0x6 0x29 0x0 messages are seen at any other time, there may be a problem with the storage or the array may have trespassed the LUN.
