Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When using Internet Explorer 11 as the browser, you experience these symptoms:

• Opening a console to a virtual machine from the vSphere Web Client displays a blank screen
• The VMware Remote Console (VMRC) is installed on the system opening the console
• The Client Integration Plugin (CIP) is installed on the system opening the console

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue, add the vSphere Web Client to the Compatibility View of the Internet Explorer 11.

To add the vSphere Web Client to the Compatibility View of the Internet Explorer 11:

1. From an Internet Explorer browser window navigate to Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
2. Add the IP address of the vSphere Web Client to this list.
3. Close any open sessions to the vSphere Web Client on this machine.
4. Log in to the vSphere Web Client and open a console session to the virtual machine.
