Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • During the process of creating a new Org vDC and you select to deploy an edge with Sub-allocated IP Pools it fails with "Internal Server - Disabled"
  • Reviewing the logs on cell at location '/opt/vmware/vcloud-director/logs', the 'vcloud-director-debug-log' log file shows entries similar to:
Sub allocated IP pool specified for gateway <EDGE_NAME> is invalid. Ranges in the pool should belong to external network IP pool.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 9.5.x

Resolution

Resolved in vCloud Director 9.7.x.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue you will need to split the process into two steps. Steps would follow:

Step 1 - Create a new Org vDC:
  1. Inside the vCloud director UI navigate to the Organisation you wish to use
  2. Under Virtual Datacenters click the green plus icon
  3. Go through the wizard and configure the Provider, Allocation Model, Storage Policies and Network pool
  4. On the page 'Configure Edge Gateway' leave the checkbox un-ticked
  5. Provide a name for the Org vDC
  6. Finish the wizard

Step 2 - Create a new Edge
  1. Go to the recently created Org vDC
  2. Navigate to 'Edge Gateways' tab
  3. Click the green plus button to add a new Edge
  4. On the first pane, tick the box labeled as 'Sub-Allocate IP Pools'
  5. Proceed with the configuration until completion
