Issue/Introduction

Test Connection window reports a failed status even when the Capacity Planner Data Manager has valid logon credentials entered for the remote system

Environment

VMware Capacity Planner 2.1.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.6.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.5.x

Resolution

If you run Capacity Planner Manager on a Windows Server 2003 system, the Individual Test Results section of the Test Connection window may list errors for registry query or performance monitor tests, even when the connection is configured to use a valid account on the remote system.
This issue happens because of security features in Windows Server 2003.
The Test Connection window should report a success</u> if the Capacity Planner Data Manager machine matches any of the following configurations:
  • Windows Server 2003, logged on as a local user (for example, Administrator)
  • Windows Server 2003, logged on as a domain user (for example, domain\username) with that domain user added as a member of the Administrators group on the remote machine
  • Any Windows system except Windows Server 2003

To troubleshoot other test connection failures, see Unable to collect data on target servers (1005646) .
