Uploading the ESXi host ISO image to the vCenter Update Manager 6.5 fails

Issue/Introduction

  • When the user uploads the ESXi host ISO image to the update manager, it fails with a red exclamation mark.

    Note: The user sees this issue with VMware and vendor specific custom ISO.
  • In the vmware-vum-server-log4cpp.log file, you see the entries similar to:

    [YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS:SSS 'managedJetty' 139726158255872 INFO] [managedJetty, 368] Jetty: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS:SSS:WARN:oejs.ServletHandler:qtp1940447180-32907: Error for /vum-fileupload/login
    [YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS:SSS 'managedJetty' 139726158255872 INFO] [managedJetty, 368] Jetty: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/vmware/updatemanager/fileupload/LoginWorker$LoginWorkerException

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Update Manager 6.5.x
  • VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5

Resolution

To work around this issue, restart the vCenter Update Manager Service by running these commands:

service-control --stop vmware-updatemgr

service-control --start vmware-updatemgr
