Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • In the DNS records for a deployed vCenter Server Appliance 5.5/6.0 or a Platform Service Controller, there are entries with invalid information.
  • Invalid DNS entries are created when deploying vCenter Server Appliance 5.5/6.0 or a Platform Service Controller Appliance.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.x

Cause

This is by design. During the deployment, the vCenter Server Appliance or Platform Service Controller searches for a DHCP address that will be used until the static address is entered during setup. This can leave an entry in the DNS server for the DHCP address.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, remove the invalid entries from the DNS server.
