Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • A virtual machine remote console screen takes up to a minute (60 seconds) to display.
  • This issue occurs when
    • Using vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client.
    • The virtual machine connecting to vCenter Server is not connected to the internet and cannot download SSL certificate updates.


Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the Windows guest operating system on the vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client attempts to validate the SSL certificate by contacting Windows Update Server. This process can take over up to a minute or more.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, disable the option to update root certificates automatically in the Windows Local Group Policy Editor.
To turn off the automatic root certificates update:
  1. Click Start > Run, type gpedit.msc, and press enter.
  2. In the left pane, navigate to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration
  3. In the right pane, double-click the Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication Settings.
  4. Right-click Turn off Automatic Root Certificates Update and click Edit.
  5. Select Enabled and click OK.
