Symptoms:
  • Network I/O speeds on virtual machines created in an Org vDC may be slower than expected.

Resolution

vCloud Director limits the vCPU speed to a default value for Org vDCs using a pay-as-you-go model and allocation-pool type. In non-vCloud Director environments, the vCPU speed is unlimited.
vCloud Director 1.0 and 1.5 use a vCPU default of 0.26 ghz. vCloud Director 5.1 and 5.5 uses a vCPU default value of 1 ghz. A lower value may significantly reduce network speed. For information on adjusting this setting, see Managing Organization vDCs in the vCloud Director Administrator's Guide.
If a virtual machine is experiencing poor network I/O speed and the vApp is in a vDC of type pay-as-you-go, try increasing the number of vCPUs in the virtual machine. The system admin also can raise the vCPU speed on the Org vDC itself, then stop/start the vApp to apply the changes.
For other network pool types, the system admin can increase the amount of CPU resources for the vDC, then stop/start the vApp.
