Org vDC monitoring does not reflect real-time virtual machine usage statistics

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• The Monitor section of a Reservation Pool Org vDC created in vCloud Director does not reflect the Memory and CPU usage that is reported in vCenter Server.
• Org vDC monitoring does not reflect real-time virtual machine usage statistics
  

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 1.0.x
VMware Cloud Director 1.5.x
VMware Cloud Director 5.1.x

Cause

vCloud Director does not currently monitor real-time memory or CPU usage.

The value that is reported in the Monitor section of vCloud Director is equivalent to the the value reported by Used Reservation in vCenter Server. This value represents the total CPU overhead, OS-type overhead, and Reservations placed on the virtual machines within the resource pool.

This value does not report the real-time CPU and memory usage of virtual machines within the resource pool.

Resolution

To measure memory or CPU usage of vCloud Director virtual machines, Administrators can use vCenter Server statistics (which give both real-time and historical measurements).
