Issue/Introduction

If a vRealize Operations Manager service was started by a different user account, the application logs the service as not running, attempts to restart the service, and displays the following message even though the service was not restarted:

One or more vRealize Operations Manager services were restarted

The problem usually occurs when a user runs the collector service script /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/collector/bin/CollectorService.sh directly as root instead of running the command:
service vmware-vcops start collector

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.1.x

Resolution

To correct the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Log in as the user account that started the service, and stop the service.

  2. Start the service by running the command:
    service vmware-vcops start collector
