Issue/Introduction

  • A vCenter Server has been reinstalled with the same domain name and IP address but the UUID has changed.
  • When trying to add the freshly rebuilt vCenter Server to a vRealize Operations Manager (formerly known as vCenter Operations Manager) instance using the same name and IP address as a previously registered vCenter Server, the Admin UI will report that the entity already exists with the following error message:
"The name '<IP_address>VC' is already in use by 'https://<IP_address>/sdk'. Specify another name for 'https://<IP_address>/sdk'.

Resolution

The UUID entries of the old vCenter Server and the new vCenter Server are out of sync in the vRealize Operations Manager database. There is no workaround. You cannot use the old name and IP address to add the new vCenter Server to vRealize Operations Manager.
