For Windows:
- Windows XP: To ensure that you have Administrator permissions, follow the instructions in Step 1 of Microsoft's Knowledge Base article 951244 </u>.
- Windows Vista: To log on as an administrator, see Microsoft's article Change a user's account type.

Note: If you are using Vista, or a version of Windows that has User Access Control (UAC), disable it temporarily.
For Linux:
Root privileges are required for most VMware-related tasks. Perform one of the following:
- Log in as root.
- Run
su -
or sudo -i
to become root.
For Mac OS:
Mac OS prompts you for an administrative user's credentials when required during the install.
To verify you are an administrator:
- Click System Preferences > Accounts
- Click on your user icon on the left.
- If your user has Allow user to administer this computer selected, you have sufficient access to install VMware Fusion.
