Issue/Introduction

This article provide steps to safely bring an Aria Operations cluster offline/online and how to reboot one or more nodes in an Aria Operations cluster.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Resolution

To restart one or more Aria Operations node(s):
  1. Log in to Aria Operations admin UI ( https://IP_or_FQDN/admin) as the local admin user.

Note: Replace IP_or_FQDN with the actual IP or FQDN of Aria Operations UI.
  1. Click Take Offline under Cluster Status.

Note: Wait for Cluster Status to show as Offline. If the cluster fails to go Offline, you may be presented with the option "Force Take Cluster Offline".
If the cluster still fails to go offline after using this Force option please see vRealize/Aria Operations Manager Admin UI 'Cluster Status' shows incorrect state and 'Bring Online' / 'Bring Offline' button is greyed out or not present.
  1. Log in to the vSphere Web client.

  2. Navigate to the node you want to restart in the vSphere Web client.

  3. Right-Click on the node and select Power > Restart Guest.

Note: Repeat steps 4 and 5 on any other nodes you want to restart.
  1. After the nodes have rebooted, log in to the Aria Operations admin UI as the local admin user.

  2. Click Bring Online under Cluster Status.

Note: Wait for the Cluster Status to show as Online.

Additional Information

Taking Aria Operations nodes offline one by one can have negative effects on the cluster if not done in the correct order.

Whenever possible, VMware recommends to take the entire cluster offline or online by clicking Take Offline or Bring Online under Cluster Status in the Admin UI.
