Issue/Introduction

This article explains how to restore your Home tab and the tab for a running virtual machine.

Environment

VMware Workstation 10.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation 11.x (for Windows)
VMware Workstation 8.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation 7.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation 4.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation Pro 12.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation 9.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation 6.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation 5.x (Windows)

Resolution

When you click the X button for the Home tab or a virtual machine tab, you close the Home page or virtual machine page. Its tab disappears.

To open the Home page / tab:

  • Workstation 8.x and above: Go to Tabs > Go to Home Tab
  • Workstation 7.x and earlier: Go to View > Go to Home Tab

To open the virtual machine page / tab:

  1. In Workstation, go to File > Open.
  2. Navigate to the location of your virtual machine, typically (My) Documents > Virtual Machines > <virtual machine name>.
  3. Select the .vmx file for your virtual machine.
  4. Click Open.

Note: You can also open your virtual machine from the Virtual Machine Library/Favorites sidebar by double-clicking the entry in the list.

The tab now appears in Workstation.
