Issue/Introduction

The LACP LAG status is down by the transition of the LAG port states. In this state, all vmnics connecting to those LAG ports are down.

Example

When all the LAG ports are LACP down, the LAG is down.

Impact

The networking for all virtual machines in the DVPortgroups that use the offline LAG as a teaming adapter is disconnected.

When the LAG is down, traffic stops. If no vmnics are connected to the LAG, the LAG state is also down. All virtual machines that use this LAG as a teaming adapter cannot send out the traffic.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x

Resolution

Check whether all vmnics connecting to the LAG ports are using full duplex mode and are physically linked.

You can check the LAG port state by running the following command:
esxcli network vswitch dvs vmware lacp status get
