Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• When using Intel Corporation Lewisburg SATA AHCI Controller is in RAID mode, driver vmw_ahci will not claim this controller
• Consequently you would not be able to locate or list the controller in ESXi 
  
  

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

• VMware does not support the RAID mode of Intel Corporation Lewisburg SATA AHCI Controller 
• The AHCI mode has been supported starting from VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5 release

Resolution

If you want to use this controller with ESXi 6.5 or above, change the mode of this controller to AHCI in the system BIOS.
