Issue/Introduction

Summary

When you are running the dhclient, the error No expiry time on offered DHCP lease is received.

This error occurs when the DHCP client receives a DHCPACK packet with no expiry time.

Example

When a dhclient receives a DHCPACK packet with no expiry time, an error message is:

DHCPACK from 10.117.9.253
No expiry time on offered lease.

Impact

The interface cannot receive a valid IP address and starts the DHCP process over again.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0

Resolution

Perform one of the following workarounds:

• Check that at least one DHCP server works properly in the subnet.
• Assigna static IP address to the interface.
