Issue/Introduction

VMware Tools OSPs for ESXi 5.x do not support the Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK).

Note: The Unbreakable Enterprise kernel is not supported on any ESX/ESXi host prior to ESXi 5.0 Update 1. For further details, see Oracle Linux 5.6 and 6.0 kernel packages supported by ESX/ESXi 4.x and ESXi 5.x.

Resolution

To use supported VMware Tools OSPs, switch to a different Linux kernel. For details, see the VMware Tools Installation Guide for Operating System Specific Packages. 

Alternatively, you can use the VMware Tools tarball-based tools.
