Cannot create a quiesced snapshot if VMware Tools are not installed in the virtual machine

Issue/Introduction

• Cannot quiesce a virtual machine.
• Creating a quiesced snapshot of a virtual machine fails.

Environment

• vSphere 8.x
• vSphere 7.x

Cause

This issue occurs if the VMware Tools is not installed in the virtual machine. The quiesce snapshot operation requires the VMware Tools to perform a guest level quiescing.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install VMware Tools in the virtual machine.
