Symptoms:

Windows virtual machine does not recognize the VMXNET3 virtual adapter with a Multicast MAC address.
In the Windows Event Viewer, you see a message similar to:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0

This issue occurs because VMXNET3 drivers do not support Multicast MAC addresses.

To resolve this issue, use a non-Multicast MAC address.
