Issue/Introduction

Symptom: snmp probe alarms->

"The SNMP agent at <IP/Host> is not responding."

Environment

Release: DX UIM, Any
Component: UIMSGT

Cause

Configuration file size:

There is a 3MB limit on the size of the snmpget configuration file. When the configuration file size gets close to or over this limit you may see performance issues.

Number of OIDs per profile:

There is a 299 OID limit per profile (as of release 1.62)

Timeouts/Retry 'default' settings:

We have seen cases in the past where a default setting for either timeout or retries actually defaults to either a very low number or even 0 so we recommend setting the probe timeout and retries for each profile to 10 and 2 respectively and this can be done via bulk configuration if necessary.

Resolution

1. Confirm the configuration file does not exceed 3MB.

2. Increase the values for timeout and retries, and test to see if it makes a difference.
