Permission to perform this operation was denied.
You do not hold privilege "System > Read" on the host ""

  • Powering on a virtual machine via the vSphere Web Client fails with the status:

Permission to perform this operation was denied.

  • You are unable to power on virtual machines within the environment.

Environment

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 6.0 Update 1, available at VMware Downloads. For more information, see the VMware vCenter Server 6.0 Update 1 Release Notes.

If you are unable to upgrade, you can work around this issue by applying Read-Only role at the Host or Cluster level of the affected cluster. For more information, see the Using Roles to Assign Privileges section of the vSphere Security guide.
